Willem Heemskerk specializes in advising and litigating civil disputes, with an emphasis on liability and damages cases. His clients include the Ministry of Justice, the Public Prosecutor's Office, insurers, lawyers and notaries, professional organisations and local authorities. He has a very broad trial experience at all judicial authorities in the Netherlands, including the Supreme Court.
Willem has built up a name in the field of civil procedural law, on which he regularly publishes and teaches. He is a member of the Consultative Commission on Civil Procedure, whose task is to advise the Government and both chambers of the States-General on legislation. He also advises other lawyers as "lawyer's lawyer.

Hij is lid van de Adviescommissie burgerlijk procesrecht, die tot taak heeft de regering en beide kamers der Staten-Generaal te adviseren over wetgeving.
