Matthijs Sturms studied law at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. After a short employment at this university, he joined our Leeuwarder branch in January 1997. In the course of time, Matthijs has started to focus on Enterprise and Insolvency Law.
In 2001 Matthijs completed the postdoctoral curator's programme at the University of Groningen and in 2010 the Grotius Specialization programme Company and Company Law. His practice consists partly of a process and advisory practice and partly of acting as a bankruptcy curator or administrator in surséances of payments.
It is precisely this combination that makes him well aware of how legal problems in these jurisdictions are looked at from a variety of perspectives. Matthijs thinks it is important to be active alongside his regular work as a lawyer and curator.

Matthijs Sturms heeft rechten gestudeerd aan de Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam. Na een kort dienstverband bij deze universiteit is hij in januari 1997 in dienst getreden bij onze Leeuwarder vestiging. In de loop der tijd is Matthijs zich gaan toeleggen op het Ondernemings- en Insolventierecht.
In 2001 heeft Matthijs de postdoctorale curatorenopleiding aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen afgerond en in 2010 de Grotius Specialisatieopleiding Vennootschaps- en Ondernemingsrecht. Zijn praktijk bestaat deels uit een proces- en een adviespraktijk en deels uit het optreden als faillissementscurator of bewindvoerder in surseances van betalingen.
Juist deze combinatie maakt dat hij goed weet hoe vanuit diverse perspectieven naar juridische problemen op deze rechtsgebieden wordt gekeken. Matthijs vindt het belangrijk om naast zijn reguliere werk als advocaat en curator actief te zijn.
