Paul Verkleij is a senior employee of the Business Law/M&A department and is part of the Energy & Utilities group. Paul regularly represents national and international (energy) companies and financial institutions. Paul focuses in particular on (cross-border) acquisitions, auction mergers, restructurings and joint ventures. He also has extensive experience in drawing up energy-related commercial contracts (gas, coal, electricity and LNG) and project documentation.
Paul has been involved, among other things, in the participation by the Dutch State in the Rotterdam Port Company to realise the Second Maasvlakte in the construction, project financing and operational aspects of InterGen's 400 MW gas-fired power plant as consultant to the project financers at the 12 billion m3GATE LNG terminal (a joint venture between Vopak and Gasunie) in the purchase of Nuon's gas extraction and exploration activities.Paul also advised Eneco on two long-term gas agreements with GasTerra and Wingas.
Paul graduated from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2003 with the specialisation of corporate law and joined NautaDutilh in 2004. Paul worked at NautaDutilh's New York office in 2006 and 2007. In 2009, Paul successfully completed the post-doctoral Grotius programme Enterprise and Company Law. Paul is a member of the Dutch Association of Energy Law and is admitted to the Order of Lawyers of Rotterdam.
Paul Verkleij is senior medewerker op de afdeling Ondernemingsrecht/M&A en maakt onderdeel uit van de Energy & Utilities groep. Paul vertegenwoordigt geregeld nationale en internationale (energie)bedrijven en financiële instellingen. Paul richt zich met name op (grensoverschrijdende) overnames, veilingfusies, herstructureringen en joint ventures. Daarnaast heeft hij uitgebreide ervaring in het opstellen van energie gerelateerde commerciële contracten (gas, kolen, elektriciteit en LNG) en project(financierings) documentatie.
Paul is onder meer betrokken geweest:bij de deelneming door de Staat der Nederlanden in het Havenbedrijf Rotterdam ter realisatie van de Tweede Maasvlaktebij de bouw, projectfinanciering en operationele aspecten van InterGen's 400 MW gas gestookte elektriciteitscentraleals adviseur van de projectfinanciers bij de 12 miljard m3GATE LNG-terminal (een joint venture tussen Vopak en Gasunie)bij de koop van de gaswinning en exploratie-activiteiten van Nuon door Tullow Oil.Paul heeft tevens onder andere Eneco geadviseerd bij 2 langetermijn gas overeenkomsten met GasTerra en Wingas.
Paul is in 2003 afgestudeerd aan de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam met de specialisatie ondernemingsrecht en trad in 2004 in dienst van NautaDutilh. Paul heeft in 2006 en 2007 gewerkt op kantoor New York van NautaDutilh. In 2009 heeft Paul succesvol de post-doctorale Grotius opleiding Ondernemings- en Vennootschapsrecht afgerond. Paul is lid van de Nederlandse Vereniging van Energierecht en is toegelaten tot de Orde van Advocaten van Rotterdam.
