Pieter Kuypers has been Chairman of the EU and Competition Law Practice Group and partner at AKD since 1998. Pieter studied law at the University of Utrecht, where he was a postgraduate in European law. He was also a member of the Royal College of London and the Faculté Internationale de Droit Comparé in Strasbourg.
Pieter specialises in European and competition law as well as private international law. Within these jurisdictions, Pieter is mainly active in the areas of cartel law, state aid and procurement law. He is a member of the Dutch Association for International Law, the Dutch and Belgian Associations for European Law, the Dutch Association for Competition Law, the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), the Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats (AIJA) and the International Bar Association (IBA).
Pieter regularly teaches and publishes on topics in the fields of European law and private international law. In February 2008, his dissertation on explicit and tacit choice of court was published in (European) private international law.
Pieter speaks fluent English, German and French.

Pieter Kuypers is praktijkgroepvoorzitter van de praktijkgroep EU en Mededingingsrecht en partner bij AKD sinds 1998. Pieter studeerde rechten aan de Universiteit van Utrecht waar hij zich postdoctoraal toelegde op het Europees recht. Daarnaast studeerde hij aan King’s College te Londen en de Faculté Internationale de Droit Comparé te Straatsburg.
Pieter is gespecialiseerd in het Europees en mededingingsrecht alsmede internationaal privaatrecht. Binnen deze rechtsgebieden is Pieter vooral actief op de gebieden van kartelrecht, staatssteun en aanbestedingsrecht. Hij is lid van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Internationaal Recht, de Nederlandse en Belgische Verenigingen voor Europees recht, de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Mededingingsrecht, de American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM), de Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats (AIJA) en de International Bar Association (IBA).
Pieter doceert en publiceert regelmatig over onderwerpen op de gebieden van het Europees recht en het internationaal privaatrecht. In februari 2008 is zijn proefschrift over uitdrukkelijke en stilzwijgende forumkeuze in het (Europese) internationaal privaatrecht gepubliceerd.
Pieter spreekt vloeiend Engels, Duits en Frans.
