Léon Wijsman is head of the Tax Litigation group of NautaDutilh and was appointed associate Partner in 2009. He has extensive experience in advising companies and their directors on (mitigation of) tax risks of companies in relation to tax and customs claims, fines and criminal prosecution, recovery and control.
He has extensive experience in bringing proceedings before the national administrative and criminal courts, the Court of Justice of the European Communities and the European Court of Human Rights.
Léon has dealt with a number of (international) well-known cases, including the KB Lux affair, the European Amurta case (which has led, inter alia, to a reduction in the Dutch dividend tax) and the European X case (on the extended post-claim period for foreign income and property).
He obtained his PhD at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he graduated in 1998.
Léon is a member of the Rotterdam Bar, the Dutch Order of Tax Advisors (NOB), the Association of Lawyers Tax Experts (NVAB) and the Association for Tax Science.
Léon Wijsman is hoofd van de Tax Litigation-groep van NautaDutilh en is in 2009 benoemd tot associate Partner. Hij heeft ruime ervaring in het adviseren van ondernemingen en hun bestuurders over (mitigering van) fiscale risico's van ondernemingen met betrekking tot fiscale en douane-aansprakelijkheden, boeteoplegging en strafrechtelijke vervolging, invordering en controle.
Hij heeft ruime ervaring in het procederen voor de nationale bestuurs- en strafrechter, het Hof van Justitie EG en Europees Hof voor de Rechten van de Mens.
Léon heeft een aantal (inter)nationaal bekende zaken behandeld, waaronder de KB Lux-affaire, de Europese Amurta-zaak (die onder meer heeft geleid tot verlaging van de Nederlandse dividendbelasting) en de Europese X-zaak (inzake de verlengde navorderingstermijn voor buitenlands inkomen en vermogen).
Hij promoveert aan de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, waaraan hij in 1998 afstudeerde.
Léon is lid van de Rotterdamse balie, de Nederlandse Orde van Belastingadviseurs (NOB), de Vereniging van Advocaten-Belastingkundigen (NVAB) en de Vereniging voor Belastingwetenschap.
