James Montgomery Burns

James Burns was born and raised in Listowel, Ontario. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver in 2015 before returning to Southwestern Ontario and settling in Stratford.

James earned his Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario in 2019 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2020 after working as a summer student and completing his articles of clerkship at Monteith Ritsma Phillips.

James maintains a broad practice focused on real estate, corporate and commercial law, farm transactions and succession planning, and estate planning and administration. James is dedicated to providing clients with clear, practical, and solutions-oriented legal advice tailored to their unique needs and objectives.

Outside of his practice, James supports a multitude of community events and initiatives throughout Stratford, Listowel, and Mitchell. James also enjoys spending time at the cottage with family and friends, travelling, and playing hockey. His enthusiasm for the sport intersects with his vocation as James also serves as an appellate committee member for the Ontario Hockey Federation, where he applies his legal experience to support fair play and governance within the game.
