A graduate of Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in Kingston, Gavin attended Manhattan College in New York City on an athletic scholarship, competing in NCAA Division track and field. He then completed his legal studies at the University of New Brunswick.

Gavin has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada for Personal Injury Litigation, consecutively for over 4 years. He became the Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America in 2025.
