Bachir Abou Chakra

Bachir, a Gowling WLG Partner based in Riyadh, has over 20 years of regional and international legal experience in technology, IP, corporate commercial matters, procurement, and media. He is proficient in both common law and civil law and has a strong track record of providing practical, clear, and legible legal advice to clients. Having previously worked at top law firms and in-house roles in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Singapore and Canada, Bachir brings with him a deep understanding of the regional and international legal landscapes. People he has worked with in the Middle East, Far East and North America, greatly appreciate Bachir's leadership, project management, contract drafting and negotiation skills.

With his most recent private practice experience in, and commercial sector awareness of, Saudi Arabia, Bachir has an acute appreciation of the Saudi market. He is very familiar with, and has advised many foreign clients looking to enter the Saudi market, on the Saudi vision as well as the manner of doing business, culture and custom there. Bachir has notably led the establishment of our office in Riyadh having played a key role in securing all the regulatory licenses and registrations for that since his return to Saudi Arabia in 2024. Thanks to him and the team he worked with, our Riyadh office is now open and fully operational.

Bachir has also advised and assisted several foreign entities (United States, United Kingdom and Canadian based) on the set up of their tech related activities, data protection and processing matters, and the licensing and distribution of their products in Saudi Arabia. He has also managed several IP portfolios (patents, trademarks, designs) for local, regional and international clients worldwide throughout his legal career. His practice over the past years has covered the full spectrum of IP from conception to development to protection to commercialization and enforcement.
