Vanessa Louise Garcia

Vanessa graduated from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law in 2018. After graduating, she completed her articles with Edelson & Friedman LLP where she assisted on matters involving persons charged with serious offences including, murder, manslaughter, sexual offences, impaired driving, drug offences and offences under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. This experience has provided Vanessa with an understanding of the workings of the legal system and the challenges faced by clients charged with related offences. Vanessa is acutely aware of the strain experienced by individuals charged with criminal offences. She advocates diligently for her clients’ interests and is dedicated to the efficient and timely resolution of every case.

While attending law school, Vanessa worked in the criminal division at the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic where she represented clients charged with summary conviction offences. Vanessa also interned with Senator Kim Pate’s office and worked on the Senate Standing Committee for Human Rights’ inquiry into federal prisons.

In addition to her passion for criminal law, Vanessa also brings the unique perspective of a scientist to her work. Having previously earned a Master’s degree in biochemistry, Vanessa is trained to analyze evidence in a thorough and critical manner.

Vanessa is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Criminal Lawyers’ Association, and the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa.

She is fluent in English, French and Spanish and can assist clients in all three languages.

Vanessa a gradué du programme de droit de l’Université d’Ottawa en 2018. Suite à sa graduation, elle a complété son stage en droit avec Edelson & Friedman LLP où elle a assisté sur des cas pour personnes faisant face à de graves accusations incluant le meurtre, les agressions sexuelles, la capacité de conduire affaiblie, la possession et trafic de drogues et les accusations selon la Loi sur le système pénal pour les adolescents. À travers ces expériences, Vanessa a acquis une connaissance profonde du système pénal ainsi que des défis qui envisagent les individus faisant face à des accusations. Vanessa est pleinement consciente de la tension que subissent les personnes accusées d’infractions pénales. Elle défend avec diligence les intérêts de ses clients et se consacre à la résolution efficace et rapide de chaque cas.
