She has a law degree from the University of Windsor, a Certificate in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford (New College), and a Master’s Degree in International Development from the University of Guelph.
Sandra has over two decades of experience doing advocacy, both as a lawyer and as a community development worker. Prior to her legal career, she did community development and neighbourhood revitalization work in the shanty-towns of Mexico, in the favelas of Brazil with UN-Habitat and in the inner city of Toronto. Her work with communities was collaborative and from the ground up, ensuring that the voices of those most vulnerable were present and heard. As a lawyer, she brings a similar approach but is now able to advocate for people individually and systemically by challenging unjust laws and systems.
She presently serves on the Board of Directors of the FCJ Refugee Centre as a member of its executive team. She was also an Adjunct Professor, at Queen’s University Faculty of Law, Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law.
Sandra is also a documentarian, who uses photography as a tool to raise awareness to promote constructive action. Her work has been exhibited internationally and published. She is interested in collaborating with individuals and organizations to tell stories through the media arts. Feel free to check out some of her work . In her spare time Sandra loves to swim, hike and travel.
