Nader practises criminal, regulatory, and constitutional law, defending clients at every level of court — from complex trials to appeals at the Supreme Court of Canada.
Nader’s trial work has included some of the country’s most closely watched cases. In R v Zameer , he secured an acquittal for a man accused of killing a police officer; earlier, he successfully represented a former Member of Parliament on corruption charges . Clients turn to him in matters where the stakes — to liberty, reputation, and livelihood — could not be higher.
Nader’s appellate work has left a lasting mark on Canadian law. As lead counsel in R v I.M . , he helped to persuade the Supreme Court of Canada to establish new limits on sentencing young people as adults. In Clyde River (Hamlet) v Petroleum GeoServices Inc. , he acted for an Inuit community in a landmark ruling on the Crown’s duty to consult Indigenous peoples.
He has developed particular depth in search and seizure law, appearing in many of the leading cases in the field. His co-authored treatise Search & Seizure has been cited by courts across Canada, including the Supreme Court.
Beyond his litigation practice, Nader has taught criminal and constitutional law at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law for over a decade. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and sits on the Advisory Committee of the David Asper Centre for Constitutional Rights . He is also a roster member of security-cleared special advocates who act in national security matters.
Nader is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers — two organizations whose fellowship is extended by invitation only to those who have demonstrated the highest standards of trial advocacy. He is also ranked Band 1 in criminal law by Chambers Canada , and has been recognized by Best Lawyers , Benchmark , and Lexpert as one of the leading criminal lawyers in the country.
