Civil Law · Ontario, Canada
Lawyer · Martin & Hillyer · Burlington
Laura provides personal legal expertise to her clients in Burlington and Halton with their car accident, injury, sexual assault, and other litigation claims.
Laura Hillyer focuses her practice on personal injury law and insurance litigation. She represents clients who have been seriously injured in motor vehicle accidents, whose disability claims have been denied, or who have been injured in slip and falls as a result of negligence. Laura also advocates for survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault, bringing claims for both past and more recent sexual and physical abuse.
Laura graduated from Queen’s University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. She then obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 1999, and she was called to the Bar in 2001.
Laura spent her first fifteen years at the Bar dividing her practice between Personal Injury Litigation and Criminal Defence. She gained valuable trial experience during this time, which she now applies in representing her personal injury clients.
Laura recognizes that her clients are often confused, frustrated, and anxious when facing the prospect of dealing with the legal system. Consequently, she makes it a priority to ensure that her clients fully understand the legal issues that will decide their cases.
Laura is a Past President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers’ Association and serves on the Board of the Ontario Safety League. She previously served on the Boards of the Hamilton Brain Injury Association and the Brain Injury Association of Peel and Halton. She is also actively involved with a Helmets on Kids Campaign, which has, as its goal, to place a helmet on the head of each child who needs one.
