Derek Nicholas Knoke

Derek * draws on his graduate studies in communication to develop a winning case and on his many years of public speaking to articulate it persuasively. Derek worked two jobs while attending law school, where he won several course prizes. His determination makes it § possible to develop solutions for his clients’ legal problems. Prior to joining Lenczner Slaght, Derek completed his articles at the Court of Appeal for Ontario, serving as a judicial law clerk. Derek has a broad civil litigation practice, with a particular focus on appeals , commercial litigation and defamation.

He also regularly defends physicians in medical malpractice and professional liability matters.

Derek is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, where he won several course prizes. Prior to joining Lenczner Slaght, Derek served as a judicial law clerk for judges of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Counsel to the plaintiffs, Paul Taylor and Karen Young, in an appeal from a trial judgment arising out of a motor vehicle collision. We successfully upheld the judgment on appeal.

Counsel to the intervener, the Ontario Superior Court Judges’ Association, in an application at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. The accused respondent sought an order allowing him to communicate with the trial judge about why reasons for judgment were not issued. We successfully resisted this application.
