About

Andrew Lanouette is a Partner in Cassidy Levy Kent’s Ottawa office and one of Canada’s most consistently recognized international trade lawyers. Since being called to the bar in 2011, he has played a central role in nearly every major Canadian trade remedy proceeding, and he is regularly named by the leading legal directories—Chambers Canada, Chambers Global, The Legal 500, Best Lawyers, Lexpert, Lexology, and Who’s Who Legal as a top practitioner in international trade, customs, and export controls and sanctions law. In Chambers Canada’s 2026 guide, Mr. Lanouette was individually ranked among the firm’s leading practitioners for a tenth consecutive year, and he was named Best Lawyers’ “Lawyer of the Year” for International Trade and Finance Law in Ottawa in the 2027 edition, a distinction based on peer feedback. He has also won the Lexology Client Choice Award for two consecutive years, an honour based entirely on client nominations and feedback.

Mr. Lanouette’s practice covers the full spectrum of Canadian trade law, with a particular focus on anti-dumping and countervailing duty litigation, export controls and economic sanctions, customs, and public procurement.

Mr. Lanouette has extensive experience in all aspects of anti-dumping and countervailing duty proceedings, including judicial reviews and appeals. He has appeared before Canada’s Federal Court of Appeal, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, and the Canada Border Services Agency, and has advised on complex, multi-party “bet-the-company” cases where significant duties and market access hang in the balance.

As an associate in the firm’s Washington, DC office, Mr. Lanouette appeared before the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission, giving him firsthand experience with parallel U.S. trade remedy proceedings that frequently run alongside Canadian cases. He also assists clients with tariff classification matters and enforcement issues before the CBSA.
