About

Criminal defence lawyer. Trial and appellate counsel at every level of court in Ontario.

Samantha is a criminal defence lawyer whose practice spans criminal trials and complex appeals. She appears regularly at every level of court in Ontario, serving as trial counsel in the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice, and as appellate counsel at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Samantha represents individuals against a wide spectrum of charges including domestic assault , sexual assault , fraud , and impaired driving offences.

Samantha has particular experience defending sexual assault allegations. She has secured withdrawals and acquittals in these high-stakes, legally complex cases, and has overturned sexual assault convictions at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Samantha is a “go-to” resource for other lawyers on the Sex Offender Information Registration Act (“SOIRA”) and frequently assists individuals in avoiding or seeking removal from the registry. She often presents education seminars to other defence counsel on legal developments in this area of practice at legal conferences.

Samantha brings a perspective informed by her background within the justice system. Before joining Daniel Brown Law LLP, she worked for the Ministry of the Attorney General at the Crown Law Office — Criminal (Toronto), where she worked on complex criminal appeals including appeals of serious offences of sexual assault , drug trafficking , and first-degree murder . She understands the inner workings of the prosecution, which helps her anticipate Crown strategies and negotiate results for her clients. Samantha also worked within the courts as a judicial law clerk at the Court of Appeal for Ontario for Justices Simmons, Trotter, and Paciocco — experience that gave her a close understanding of how judges decide cases and how to craft an effective legal argument.
