David Zhang is a business-minded lawyer in Cohen Highley’s Corporate Commercial group, where he helps clients plan for the future, solve problems creatively, and grow with confidence. When asked what he finds most fulfilling about his work, David puts it simply:
“I’m a planner by nature. I love using that strength to help clients reduce future risk and create long-term opportunity. Whether I’m drafting contracts, setting up a new business, or helping navigate a major transaction, I find it incredibly rewarding to deliver clear, practical solutions that support my clients’ goals. I became a lawyer to help people, and I’m grateful that every day my practice allows me to do exactly that.”
David holds an Honours Business Administration (HBA) from the Ivey Business School and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Western Law. His dual training in business and law allows him to offer clients a blend of legal insight and real-world business experience. David focuses his practice on corporate and commercial law, including business structuring, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and international transactions. His clients value his ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice that supports growth, mitigates risk, and drives long-term value.
David’s legal practice is complemented by global experience. In 2022, David worked with the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., as a Legal Consultant, contributing to insolvency and debt resolution reforms in economies such as Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bulgaria.
David is respected for his diligence, thoughtfulness, and solutions-oriented approach. He brings integrity, preparation, and calm focus to every negotiation, qualities that earn him trust on both sides of the table. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, he supports clients with cross-border legal matters and multicultural business needs.
